Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until smooth. Stir in the melted butter, sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture and stir in. Gently fold in the flour until just incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

If using, fold in chopped walnuts or chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
