01 -
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
02 -
For fresh peaches, toss sliced peaches with 1/2 cup sugar in a bowl and let sit for 10 minutes to release juices. If using canned peaches, simply drain them.
03 -
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
04 -
Gradually pour milk and melted butter into the dry ingredients while stirring. Add vanilla extract and mix until just combined; a few lumps are fine.
05 -
Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
06 -
Distribute the peach mixture evenly over the batter. If desired, sprinkle cinnamon on top for additional flavor.
07 -
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Test with a toothpick inserted in the center - it should come out clean.
08 -
Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving to let the juices settle.
