Werther's Caramel Popcorn (Printable Version)

Crunchy popcorn coated in authentic Werther's caramel creates a perfect balance of sweet and salty for an irresistible snack.

# Ingredients:

→ Popcorn Base

01 - 1/4 cup mushroom popcorn kernels
02 - 1 tablespoon coconut oil

→ Caramel Coating

03 - 12 Werther's Original chewy caramels
04 - 2 tablespoons butter
05 - 3 tablespoons golden brown sugar
06 - 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

# Steps:

01 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside for later use when spreading the caramel-coated popcorn.
02 - In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the coconut oil. Add Werther's Original caramels to the melted oil, stirring continuously until the caramels are fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
03 - Once the caramels have melted, add the butter to the saucepan and stir until completely melted. Gradually add in the golden brown sugar and baking soda, stirring until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
04 - Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the popcorn kernels spread on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring all kernels are well coated. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and bake the caramel-coated popcorn for about 10 minutes until crisp.
05 - Remove the popcorn from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the baking sheet. Break apart any large clusters before serving.

# Notes:

01 - This homemade version recreates the distinctive Werther's caramel flavor that makes the original so popular.
02 - Mushroom popcorn kernels are ideal for caramel coating as they pop into round, sturdy shapes that hold caramel well.
